From the Artist
I have always been inspired by and felt most comfortable in nature. Working with clay and in my garden feels like a natural extension of my spiritual connection to it. My artwork does not attempt to address any issues facing us, but is a simple exploration of the expressive qualities of color and the sculptural qualities of a leaf, especially Hostas. To me, every piece I create is a way to add an element of beauty and joy to someone’s day-to-day life.
I’ve been working with clay since my 1st Ceramics class at ECU in 1991 and I still get excited at the possibilities of what I can create from a formless lump of dirt. My desire is to create elegant functional and sculptural forms enhanced by rich colors or the unpredictable touch of fire. It is the fine balance between aesthetics and function, which continues to guide me on my journey as a potter.
